How to take a great video interview

We understand that creating a video interview isn’t the easiest thing to do, which is why we, at StemX, have put together some tips to make sure your experience is as smooth as possible.

First of all, to carry out your interview you’ll need a device with a camera, microphone and internet connection.

Watch our guide to recording the best video interview

Do Your Research

When it comes down to interviews preparation is everything. Make sure you do your homework and you’re aware of the companies background, as you may be asked questions about it.

Look Presentable

A good first impression will go a long way. Dress appropriately, as you would for a normal interview, but remember, only your top half will be visible on camera.

Calm & Quiet Location

Next, you’re going to need to find the right location. Choosing the right environment is key. We recommend taking yourself to a calm and quiet space, away from distractions. This will help make your interview as professional as possible

Be Personable

Speaking to a camera won’t come as natural as speaking to a person so remember to keep a healthy level of eye contact. Don’t feel you have you to stare into the camera the whole time…it might come off as creepy.

Practice Makes Perfect

We all know practice makes perfect. Take advantage of our practice feature to familiarise yourself with the process and to feel comfortable in front of the camera. This feature will allow you to read the question and take some time to think about your answer before you speak. Remember to speak clearly and confidently when answering the questions. When it comes to the real interview, you will only have one chance to answer the question before it proceeds.

Watch The Clock

The interviewer is able to set different time lengths for you to read and answer the questions. Once the read time is up, it will automatically begin recording your answer. Not all questions have the same time allocations, so always keep an eye on the clock so you don’t get caught out.

By following these tips we believe your video interviewing experience with StemX will be as enjoyable as possible.
