What are STEMx’s key aims?
The key aims of the STEMx Learning Programme are:
- Inspire STEM focused careers at every opportunity.
- Grow our programmes that are designed to inspire the future STEM talent.
- Nurture people from under-represented communities.
What is the core curriculum?
The core curriculum is mapped to the National Curriculum in several areas including English, Maths, Science, Computing, and Design Technology. We have built our curriculum opportunities to empower and educate across careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths).
Do the STEMx experiences link to the National Curriculum?
Yes! Our engaging curriculum-focused experiences have been carefully selected and mapped to the National Curriculum for Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3 pupils. There is a particular focus on promoting STEM subjects and empowering learners. We explore the world of design, science, mathematics and technology behind racing. Older pupils will also look at career opportunities within the STEM industries and world of Formula One.
Will the programme be delivered online or in-person?
The curriculum will consist of both online and face to face learning and can be accessed in two ways:
- An interactive online learning package that includes lesson plans, presentations, pupil quizzes and interactive tools for learning.
- An experience day delivered in school to pupils by the STEMx team.
We offer engaging experience days for both primary and secondary pupils, with age-appropriate activities designed to inspire and educate. Each age group has two exciting options to choose from, with activities tailored to suit their developmental stage and interests.
There are two key experiences to choose from:
Race Day Experience
A full day package that includes all elements of the programme. Pupils will participate in coding challenges, a pit stop activity, media interviews, design and race their own cars, and learn about career routes within Formula One.
STEM Experience
A half day session that focuses on the principles of racing through coding, building and racing cars, and a pit stop challenge.
All experiences include careers talk that highlights different job roles available and entry pathways.
What is the duration of the two different experiences?
The duration of the two different experiences ranges from 3-5 hours:

My school has SEND students, can we enjoy the STEMx experience?
SEND provision is extremely important to the education team at STEMx. Our method of working is naturally inclusive so please do reach out if you’d like us to deliver the STEMx experience in your specialist setting.
We recognise that our workshops have been designed for mainstream settings and, therefore, may not be appropriate for all specialist contexts. However, we can make some reasonable adaptations to workshops when delivering in specialist schools so that pupils can access the learning. Social stories can be provided in advance of your visit, for anyone who would find this supportive.
We’ll work with you to understand your pupils’ needs and offer all the information you need to make an informed choice about our services. You know your pupils best. Equally, we always work in pupils’ best interests. If we don’t think we can provide what your pupils need, we’ll let you know.
We are committed to working closely with you to address any Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) requirements, ensuring that every member of your staff and students can enjoy their day. Please email our schools team (stemx@mkcollege.ac.uk) if you wish to discuss your needs prior to making a booking. Our team can provide tailored advice to help you plan a day that meets the specific needs of your students.
