What are STEMx’s key aims?

The key aims of the STEMx Learning Programme are:

  • Inspire STEM focused careers at every opportunity.
  • Grow our programmes that are designed to inspire the future STEM talent.
  • Nurture people from under-represented communities.

What is the core curriculum?

The core curriculum is inspired by national curriculum and is being developed collaboratively between Milton Keynes College and Oracle Red Bull Racing. We have built our curriculum opportunities to empower and educate across careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths).

Do the STEMx experiences link to the National Curriculum?

Yes! Our engaging curriculum-focused experiences have been carefully selected and mapped to the National Curriculum for Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3 pupils. There is a particular focus on promoting STEM subjects and empowering learners. We explore the world of design, science, mathematics and technology behind racing. Older pupils will also look at career opportunities within the STEM industries and world of Formula One.

Will the programme be delivered online or in-person?

The curriculum will consist of both online and face to face learning and can be accessed in two ways:

  • A 6-week block learning package accessible via the Online Hub.
  • An experience day to school children by Milton Keynes College via the Mobile Facility.

There are three key experiences to choose from:

Race Day Experience

An immersive Oracle Red Bull Racing learning session which covers an introduction to F1 and making the car go faster, building and racing cars, working as part of a team to complete the Pit Wall Challenge, experience the F1 2023 game with authentic tracks and cars followed by an interview and studio experience and finally a challenge for students to submit a design for an alternative car livery.

My school has SEND students, can we enjoy the STEMx experience?

SEND provision is extremely important to the education team at STEMx. Our method of working is naturally inclusive so please do reach out if you’d like us to deliver the STEMx experience in your specialist setting.

We recognise that our workshops have been designed for mainstream settings and, therefore, may not be appropriate for all specialist contexts. However, we can make some reasonable adaptations to workshops when delivering in specialist schools so that pupils can access the learning. Social stories can be provided in advance of your visit, for anyone who would find this supportive.

We’ll work with you to understand your pupils’ needs and offer all the information you need to make an informed choice about our services. You know your pupils best. Equally, we always work in pupils’ best interests. If we don’t think we can provide what your pupils need, we’ll let you know.

We are committed to working closely with you to address any Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) requirements, ensuring that every member of your staff and students can enjoy their day. Please email our schools team (stemx@mkcollege.ac.uk) if you wish to discuss your needs prior to making a booking. Our team can provide tailored advice to help you plan a day that meets the specific needs of your students.

Please get in touch with us if you are interested in our programme as a home educator or check the booking calendar to sign up to our home educator day.
